Seeking Board of Directors

CCGLA is pleased to announce it is currently soliciting Board of Director applicants for the 2006-08 year. The term for the position will begin June 18, 2006.

We will be accepting applications through May 16, 2006 and elections will be held at the Annual Meeting on May 23rd. Interested parties are encouraged to review the application.

Note: Candidates for the Board of Directors must have paid their annual dues and have been a member of CCGLA for a minimum of 30 days.

Annual Meeting

Last November Texans voted for Amendment No. 2, defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Do you know how this law affects your current legal documents? 

Mark your calendar and join us at the Annual Meeting for an interactive discussion with our guest speakers on financial and estate planning for same-sex couples, including the potential ramifications of Amendment 2.

Business Network of Collin County

Next meeting is April 21, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Jasper's Restuarant 7161 Bishop Rd. in The Shops of Legacy in Plano. The groups goal is to spread the word and have many join the group -- the more people that attend, the better your prospects for building your client-base as well as helping other clients find new service providers.

CCGLA Mixer

The next Social mixer is April 21 at Berryhill Baja Grill, 18101 Preston Rd in North Dallas. Drink Specials are from 5:30 - 7:30 PM

Local May Election

Early Voting for the May 13th Election runs from May 1 - 9.

The political committee will provide an informational voters' guide and we currently have volunteers gathering information on candidates running in Plano, Frisco and CCCCD. If you live in other Collin County cities and would like to volunteer with the political committee, email .

Habitat for Humanity's Women Build

Habitat for Humanity's Women Build is looking for women (and men that want to help support the women) to help build a house. They are planning for ~300 women volunteers to complete the house in 8-9 days.

The volunteers will start framing on Thursday, April 27th and will work thru Sunday, April 30th. Then start again on Thursday, May 4th and finish up the major work on Sunday, May 7th.

The home will be dedicated to a family on Mother's Day, Sunday May 13th at 3:00 pm. If you have ever been to a Habitat home dedication, you know that it is an awesome and inspiring way to spend Mother's Day with your family and friends!

They are specifically looking for volunteers on Sunday, April 30th and Sunday, May 5th. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, send an email to community.chair@ccgla.org

Frisco no longer backs 121 toll plan
The Frisco City Council rescinded support Tuesday for the expansion of 11 miles of State Highway 121 as a toll road through Collin County. The council's 5-1 vote sets the stage for a showdown with state officials who are thinking about granting a tollway contract to a private company.

Bill requires gays' history to be taught
The state Senate will consider a bill that would require California schools to teach students about the contributions gay people have made to society -- an effort that supporters say is an attempt to battle discrimination and opponents say is designed to use the classroom to get children to embrace homosexuality.

After waiting outside overnight to be among the first to enter this year's White House Easter Egg Roll, families in line were surprised to learn that the White House had changed the ticketing policy for the annual event.

Gay Foes Increase Pressure On Ford
The Fort Lauderdale-based Center for Reclaiming America for Christ claims to have 800,000 members across the country. This week it joined a boycott led by the American Family Association in demanding the automaker stop funding the LGBT media and supporting gay causes.

NAACP leader opposes amendment banning same-sex marriage
Black leaders, including those in the church, have an obligation to oppose a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in South Carolina said the Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III.

Supreme Court Nixes Falwell Gay Web Suit
(Washington) The Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal by evangelist Jerry Falwell that a gay Web site satirizing his stand on gays is an infringement on his rights.
